Hucknall Sports U9's White 3 Hucknall Sports U9's Black 0
Saturday 27th January 2007
This was a match that the Whites couldn't afford to lose if they still wanted
to have a chance of winning the league.
The match started with the Whites in the ascendancy and nearly went in front
when a cross-cum-shot by Adam Ellis hit the bar but the ball bounced away for a
goalkick. This was the closest either team came to scoring in the first half.
Gradually the Blacks managed to get back into the game, and although they never
really threatened the Whites goal, it was the Whites who were glad to
hear the half time whistle.
At half time the Blacks could sense an upset, but this was not to be as the
whites scored twice in the space of five second half minutes through Jake
Towers, who took both his goals with the confidence of a striker who has been
scoring freely all season. The Blacks kept battling and tried to get back into
the game but were unfortunate to concede a third when a Jack Kibble shot took
two deflections
on it's way through a crowded penalty area and ended up in the bottom corner.
This was a local derby played in good spirit, with lots of effort and
commitment from both sets of players. A very well done to all involved.
