West Bridgford Stags
1 Hucknall Sports U11's Black 3
Sunday 30th September
2007
A magical opening ten minutes see Sports do enough to secure all the
points away from home and maintain their 100% start to the season.
Some enforced changes but Sports still started this game strongly and took a
deserved early lead when Macauley Walker headed home a pinpoint cross from
Matthew Bennison. Rhys Powell read the game well and his timely interception
and quick pass found Joe Jemmett-Allen who in turn set Cory George free. Stags
defender cleared the danger but George took the subsequent throw-in quickly
and found Brandon 'Gunny' Booth in the channel, his well driven 1st time strike at
the near post proved too much for the Stags keeper. 'Gunny' Booth struck again
after good work from Lewis Kerry found Walker who's shot was initially saved
but Booth was on hand to fire home, putting the visitors three goals ahead.
At the other end a man of the match performance from Thomas Shaw along with
his defensive partners of Powell, Brandon Wynn and Dale Thomas was enough to
see the Sports keeper Richard Allen with little to do. Sports
continued to dominate the first half and created chances a plenty but
steadfast defending and a superb display of goal keeping kept them at bay.
The second half saw Stags come out fighting and force a couple of fine
saves from Allen before finally pulling one back with a strike that gave
him no chance. Their tails up Stags continued to press Sports but Shaw
organised his defence well and having soaked up the early pressure
started to turn the tide again. Kieren Darby on for Jemmett-Allen put George
through on goal but a superb last ditch tackle from the Stags fullback was
enough to put the brakes on the Sports attack. Walker and Bennison were denied
by good keeping before the Stags keeper stood bravely to deny George again
when Kerry put him through one on one. Thomas saw his shot blocked and
Walker was denied again before the Stags keeper again stopped George in his
tracks.
