Whites Go Out in Cup Thriller
Whites, not for the first time this season, got off to a shaky start and conceded a sloppy goal after failing to cut out a cross from Gedling's left wing. But the response from Hucknall was terrific and time after time they cut through the Gedling defence with a wonderful display of passing, intelligent, football and eventually the equaliser came via a deflected shot.Half time arrived with the scores level at 1-1.
Strong winds greeted the start of the second half and each team pushed hard for a goal. Both goalies produced a wonderful exhibition of shot-stopping, with Hucknall's BROWN in stunning form, even saving with his head on one occasion. Unfortunately, a stinging shot from Gedling bounced back to their striker to take Southbank back into the lead for a second time. Hucknall responded again and EVANS turned on the style in midfield to create openings for ORTON and HALLAM only for Gedling's keeper to bravely dive in at their feet to hold out until the final whistle.
