Whites
battle back once again
After
losing the first encounter with All Whites 8-0, Hucknall set off for
Clifton looking for a much better performance this time around.
A strong
wind greeted the teams arrival at Green Lane and it was clear that this
was going to be a tough day for anyone to play decent football.
Clifton
chose to play with the wind at their back in the first half and clearly
set out to bombard the Hucknall goal with long shots. But it was Hucknall
who created the first chances of the game with Hallam firing two long
range thunderbolts just over the bar followed by Saxton's long punt just
bouncing wide of the Clifton goal. Then Clifton took the lead when a
moments hesitation in Whites defence presented an easy chance for their
forward to slot home and with half-time approaching fast a second Clifton
goal was awarded after the referee adjudged that the ball had crossed the
line.
Not for a
moment did Hucknall consider that this game was over and arrived on the
pitch early for the start of the second half with a great sense of
determination and purpose. From the kick-off Whites set about finding a
way to Clifton's goal and HALLAM pulled a goal back when his deflected
shot cannoned into the back of the net. Whites "SAS" defensive
duo of Saxton and Smith continually snuffed out any Clifton chances. Two
minutes from time Hucknall got their deserved equaliser when "Welsh
Wizard" EVANS prodded home a Hallam corner during a goal mouth
scramble. With the clock ticking down a neat interchange between Barlow
and Bowley put Barlow into space but after beating two defenders
brilliantly he just ran out of pitch otherwise a certain winner would have
been scored.
Final
score Clifton AW 2 Hucknall Sports 2.
Some
great performances from the Hucknall team, with Orton and Saxton both
worthy of a mention, but Man
of the Match went to SMITH for
a tremendous defensive performance and some
"clever" football.
