Heartbreak for Whites
Saturday morning saw Hucknall taking on Dunkirk in the Semi-final of the YEL Trophy at the Ron Steel Sports Ground.
Whites started the game at breakneck speed and almost scored with a move directly from the kick-off. Dunkirk were on the back foot and defended stoutly whilst Hucknall continued to seek the opening goal. Clear cut chances were hard to come by but Hallam, Barlow and Evans all went close. However it was clear that it was going to take something special to beat the inspired goalkeeping of the Dunkirk Keeper who must surely the best in the YEL by a mile. Half time arrived with the scores level at 0-0.
Hucknall started the second half with the wind at their backs but this, combined with the smallest pitch in the league, only served to hinder any chance of decent football with Whites crisp passing running out of pitch time and again. A stunning move from one end of the pitch to the other by Hucknall presented Barlow with the chance to score but once again Dunkirk's keeper came to the rescue with a fine save.
Colts started to find their feet and went ahead with a freak goal that looped up and over the despairing jump of Hucknall goalie Brown into the top corner to leave Whites shell-shocked. Hucknall reorganised and played two up front in search of the equaliser, but Dunkirk effectively closed out the game when they caught Whites on the break to take a 2-0 lead. Final score 2-0 to Dunkirk.
