Whites
go through to the Semi-Finals
Finally the weather
settled down just long enough for Hucknall to take on Bulwell in the Quarter
Finals of the YEL Trophy at Newstead Recreational Ground. Both teams were
really up for this match and even though Bulwell play in a division lower
Hucknall knew what a threat they can be with their free-flowing brand of
football.
Bright sunshine and a
chill wind greeted the start of the match and Hucknall got off to the best
possible start by taking a quick, two goal, lead through HALLAM and
ORTON. But Bulwell fought back magnificently and in the 'blink of an eye' they
were back level at 2-2 leaving Hucknall wondering what was happening.
Incredibly though,
almost direct from the restart after Bulwell's equaliser DAVIES 'hoofed' a
long ball forward into the opponents penalty area that could only be pushed
into the back of his own goal by the unluckily Bulwell keeper. Before Rangers
could re-group Hucknall fired another two goals through BARLOW and half time
arrived with the score at 5-2 to Whites.
Bulwell stirred
themselves once more for the start of the second half and with the wind at
their backs they looked confident. But outstanding defending from Davies and
Saxton, plus wonderful closing down by Hucknall's midfield trio of Evans,
Orton and Smith limited Bulwell to only a handful of efforts that goalie Brown
managed to keep out without too much effort. Hucknall tried hard to close out
the game, but found the Bulwell goalkeeper in great form and time and again he
stopped Whites at the final hurdle.
Eventually, the best move
the game (maybe the season) saw a Hucknall string together ten passes in a row
resulting in Hallam crossing for ORTON to slot into the Bulwell goal and
the game was over at 6-2.
Both teams should be
congratulated on their contribution to a totally thrilling game.
Man of the Match for
Hucknall went to Davies for an
awesome performance that inspired both his team mates and Hucknall
supporters.

Once again a friendly
match was played out afterward and both teams continued to thrill the crowds.
Hart, Wilson and Diriso
can all be happy with their contributions. The score was not really an issue
as this was a time to experiment, but Bulwell played some neat football
and deservedly took a two goal lead into the half time break.
A tough second half
ended in stalemate with no team able to find the net despite their best
attacking efforts.
Man of the Match for
Hucknall went to Johnstone for a
skilful performance on the left wing to show everyone that Hucknall have great
'strength in depth' this season.
