As winter approaches us, Sports kick off
this match looking to advance into the next round of this competition.
It took Sports only a few minutes to settle
down before they started to play some of their best football of the season.
Every player it seemed was eager to stamp their personality on to this game.
Their reward came after almost ten minutes, a cross from the right found
defenders plus Fagan Edwards in the box, but it was the lively Edwards to react
first and fire past the stranded keeper. Before I had time to record the goal a
second was scored. Mark Shelton already making the middle of the park his own,
picked up a loose ball took it forward and from outside the area hit the ball
into the back of the net.
Two more goals before half time by the busy
Curtis Edwards, always looking for space, took the score to 4-0. The first a
solo effort, picks the ball up around the center spot, takes it forward beats
his man and the keeper. His second came from a cross by Joe Worrell, Edwards
controlled the ball and then lobbed the ball over the advancing keeper.
The second half began with Sports still
pressing; the odd times that Netherfield put an attack together Sports were back
in numbers defending their keeper, Kieran Sheppard. Number five came from a
Sports goal kick, Sheppard kicks up field and Worrell heads forward to Oliver
Davidson-Turner who is there to tuck it into the corner. Within a minute Curtis
Edwards completes his hat-trick, a lovely ball through the middle from Reegan
Morris and Edwards makes it 6-0.
A seventh goal from Fagan Edwards pushes the
score on, a well timed lob over the keeper.
It wasn’t an easy task to award the “Man
of the Match” trophy. Each player’s work rate was good and they all played
their part well. In the end it was awarded to Curtis Edwards for a well taken
hat-trick.
