CHALLENGE SHIELD
FINAL TIE

Carton Town FC was the 2009 FA Shield final adopted for
this tie and Hucknall Sports who were finalists last season were out to go 1
better and end a 32 year drought for the club winning this prestigious trophy.
Sports were soon on the attack with two quick efforts,
Macauley Walker’s shot on goal was straight at the keeper and after a nice
through ball from Stephen Whitley, Mark Shelton went just wide.Sports were first
on the score sheet, a goal kick from Pelican was neatly collected by Shelton,
his through ball to Adam Boyfield put him in with a chance but he took it wide,
he held on to the ball then pushed it through the middle as Walker came through.
Sports were on top pushing forward.
Sports bounced their way back into this game and in the
second half went further ahead. A long ball forward from Worrall bounced
awkwardly for the Pelican defence on this uneven surface, but Walker used his
height to head the ball past the out of position keeper. 3-1 to Sports. As
Sports were moving up a breakaway by Pelican, and a fine solo effort got them
back to 3-2 and again looking for an equalizer. Sports held on with some good
defending, Ben Clarke, Kieran Duncan and Kieran Davis all stood up to the
challenge.
2009 saw Hucknall Sports' first ever win in the FA shield already finalists in the yel league cup and at Easter winners, of the Filey cup on tour. The U12 lads would like to thank the massive support they received on the night from parents, and managers within Hucknall Sports club.
