For the best part of this first half there were chances at
both ends with shots going over or just wide of their targets. It was Sports who
finally broke the deadlock with a hat trick of goals before halftime, and then
went on to claim all three points.
Sports were resolute in defence with Kieran
Davis, Ben Clarke and Sam Farn dealing with everything Eastwood could conjure
up. As Eastwood tired, Sports
stepped up a gear and after 23 minutes took the lead. A
poor goal kick from Eastwood and the ball lands with Mark Shelton. He controls
well and feeds the ball to Joe Worrell who takes it forward, his attempt on goal
is stopped by the keeper and the ball comes out to Curtis Edwards, his effort is
saved by the keeper, this time the ball lands with Shelton. This time his shot
beats the keeper and ends up in the back of the net. Its now 1- 0 to Sports.
Five minutes later as Eastwood try and
regroup, attacks down the right are becoming more frequent and the lively
Stephen Whitley earns a throw. Farn takes a long throw to
Shelton
; he beats two defenders before shooting past the keeper to put Sports 2-0
up.Before Eastwood could settle, Whitley gets a good cross in but the keeper
collects well, but the throw out is a poor one and
Shelton
again collects. He has time to control, move forward and pick his spot with the
best shot of the day to put Sports 3-0 at half time.
Eastwood try to get something from this game
but the Sports defence are playing well together and with Ben Oscroft and
Shelton
in midfield picking up the loose balls and pushing balls through the defence
they begin to come forward. Eastwood are playing the offside trap well but
eventually one gets through. Ben Clarke picks up a ball in
midfield, times his pass well, right through the Eastwood defence for Fagan
Edwards to run on to. The keeper comes out but Edwards lobs the ball calmly over
his head to put the score to 4-0.
A fine save later in the game by Kieran
Sheppard keeps a clean sheet as Sports pick up three more points. Kieran Davis
was outstanding in defence and picked up the “Man of the Match” award.
