Hucknall Sports U12's Red 2 Clifton All whites 2

Saturday 9th May 2009

Hucknall take one step nearer the title with this point, only games in hand stand in the way of achieving winning the championship.

Sports began this match briskly, Macauley Walker firing just wide after a few minuets but the game settled down with neither side wanting to take too many chances. The wind blowing across the pitch gave Clifton an advantage in this first half, Clifton tried shots from long range but Kieran Sheppard in goal had them well covered.

Sports moved the ball well in midfield and at times the Clifton defence was unsure of itself as Joe Worrall and Mark Shelton came forward. It was from a long ball forward by Worrall that Sports took the lead. The Clifton keeper looked favourite to take the ball but a misunderstanding between him and a defender let in Walker , he calmly fired into an empty net. 1-0 Sports. Clifton came back and an attack down the right and cross into the middle was met first time by their forward, it gave Sheppard no chance. 1-1.

Sports kick off this second half, the wind still playing a big part in this game. Few goal scoring chances came either way, any attacks Clifton had were soon dealt with as Ben Clarke, Sam Farn and Kieran Duncan were holding their lines well at the back. Sports started to push down the left side, Shelton and Oliver Davidson-Turner linking well and earning some corners. Davidson trying a shot from outside the area that went just wide. Another corner and Sports take the lead. Shelton’s inswinger looks certain to go in under the bar, the keeper manages to keep it out by pushing it back into play, Walker got his head to it but it was Jolli Heer who had just come on, that tapped it into the net with his first touch of the ball, 2-1 Sports.

Clifton looked for an equalizer, the Sports defence was tight not letting them get to close to create chances, but a long range lob from the center circle mislead everyone and ended up in the top corner to put Clifton back on level terms. A draw kept Sports unbeaten record intact in the league, their march to the title gets nearer. Ben Clarke in defence was named “Man of the Match” Clarke never gave up no matter what Clifton tried.
