Pelican Colts 0 Hucknall Sports U12's Red 4
Saturday
13th September 2008
The sun shone for the first time this
season as Pelican kick off and get this game underway. The warmth of the sun
must have given Sports a boost as they were on the attack straight away.
Within six minutes Sports were in front, from a clearance by Pelican, Ben Oscroft hits it back towards goal and Ryan Holton heads it further towards goal but Pelican clear it again. It’s picked up this time by Joe Worrell, his pass through the defence splits it open and Oliver Davidson Turner is there to fire pass the keeper into the corner.
Two more minutes and Sports get their
second. A free kick is awarded to Sports for a heavy shoulder charge long before
reaching the ball just inside Pelican’s half. Mark Shelton takes the kick;
this well taken kick is over the keeper and bends into the top corner.
Sports were doing most of the pressing and
it was no surprise when they grabbed a third. Kieran Duran wins a challenge and
controls the ball, he lobs it forward to Holton who heads it on to Shelton,
Shelton takes it forward past defenders but the keeper comes out and blocks the
ball. The ball is free and Shelton is the only one who chases it, he calmly
tucks it into the empty net.
The second half begins and Sports come out
without the passion from the first half. Pelican get one of their rare shots on
goal but Kieran Sheppard in goal deals with it well. Pelican win their first
corner but the Sports defence handles the situation and the danger is cleared.
Ben Clarke who has been playing well in defence is pushed up front to inject
some fire into the side. Slowly Sports pick up the pace and Shelton who is
playing well in midfield pushes balls forward trying to give his forwards a
chance. As a result Stephen Whitley, Reegan Morris and Ryan Holton all go close.
It was five minutes before the final whistle
that Sports go further ahead. Shelton wins the ball on the right, crosses to
Holton in the middle, Holton cleverly pushes the ball to his right to give
himself a clear chance, sees the keeper off his line and his shot goes over the
keeper into the net.
Two good goals and an assist earn Shelton the “Man of the Match” trophy as Sports claim their second win in two matches.
