A hard fought out battle with the
temperature dropping and the pitch suffering from the winter weather saw Sports
carve out another win to progress to the next round.
Within five minutes Sports take the lead,
Mark Shelton already putting his own mark on this game wins a tackle in
midfield. His through ball splits the
Arnold
defence and Curtis Edwards runs on, rounds the keeper and his unselfish cross
into the box meets Oliver Davidson-Turner who taps in.
Arnold
come back and an attempted cross from the left bounces badly on the boggy
pitch, catches the post and it’s in the net to put the game square.
Both teams now looking for a way to get in
front,
Arnold
come close with a fine volley that is just wide of the post. Joe Worrall gets
in a fine header from a corner that just skims the bar. Sports settle and begin
to control the midfield, Ben Oscroft and
Shelton
offering chances to their forwards.
Arnold
are still trying to create chances, but Sam Farn and Ben Clarke are keeping
tight lines.
Shelton
finally breaks the deadlock with a fine goal. A clearance from the
Arnold
keeper is picked up by
Shelton
who moves forward to the edge of the penalty area, his shot rockets in to put
Sports ahead. Minuets later Sports go further ahead, a nice build up on the
right involving Kieran Davis, Reegan Morris and Stephen Whitley wins Sports a
corner.
Shelton
puts in a fine cross, the keeper catches but drops the ball and Clarke is there
to tap it in.
With Sports 3-1 up as the second half
got underway, they build up several attacks on the right winning a series of
throws, a quick thinking Whitley sees Shelton unmarked in the area,
throws the ball and Shelton controls, turns and from an acute angle fires past
the keeper to put Sports 4-1 up. Sports go further ahead
with another quick throw from Whitley into the box,
Shelton
picks up and controls well and fires in his hat-trick.
Arnold
still battle on and get a late goal to give the score some respectability.
Sports Move in to the semi-Final with
Shelton
winning “The Man of the Match” trophy for his fine hat-trick and control of
midfield.
