Under 12 Challenge Shield- Round 4
Round four of the Under 12's challenge shield was away to division one Saturday side Eastwood Colts and proved to be a real cup tie as Eastwood struck first while Sports were still away with the Christmas fairies.
Sports stuck back with a training ground free kick delivered by Mark Shelton to the awaiting Oliver Davidson-turner to equalize. As Sports started to pick up where they left off before the Christmas break, the football started flowing with an excellent cross from Reegan Morris that Stephen Whitley finished to put sports ahead. More attacks from Sports saw the Eastwood number 1 making some fine saves, until Turner turned early in the box to put Sports 3-1 up at the interval.
Early pressure from Eastwood
was soaked up by the Sports defence as they started the better in the second
half. Kieran Sheppard making some good stops in the Sports goal to deny the
Eastwood attacks. Sports went 4-1 up with a clever turn from Macaulay Walker
to fire into the top corner giving the goal keeper no chance.Eastwood hit back
when Sports failed to clear to make it 4-2, but that was soon dismissed as
Sports marched on to the
quarter finals but Eastwood Colts never gave up in this thrilling 4th
round tie. Sports Player of the Match went to the busy number 1 Kieran
Sheppard who actually got dirty!
