It was a good final to watch, both teams
creating chances but
Clifton
had two early chances, one from a corner and the other from a free kick and
took them. Sports tried hard but could not take their chances to get back on to
level terms.
A penalty for hand ball in the area was well
taken by Mark Shelton to give them some hope, Macauley Walker’s height and
strength in the Clifton penalty area was causing problems, and Joe Worrall’s
presence in the area when corners were being taken was also a threat. But Sports
could not get that equalizer and at half time were 2-1 down.
Clifton
kicked off this second half and again chances at both ends were created. A
break away from
Clifton
and they went further ahead, a solo effort that was well taken put them 3-1 up.Sports
didn’t give up and again pulled one back to get within one goal. A forward
pass from midfield was headed back by
Clifton
to put Joe Barnes onside, he took his chance well to head past the keeper. Two
fine free kicks by Shelton one just over and one just wide almost got them back
on terms, but as Sports kept pressing forward Clifton found room in the Sports
defence and went further ahead to seal the match at 4-2.
It wasn’t to be for Sports this time.
Plenty of enthusiasm and hard work from Sports. Joe Worrall very busy helping
his forwards, then back to assist in defence earned him the “Man of the
Match” trophy.
