Sports U12's Red 2
Carlton
Town Yellow 2
Saturday
28th March 2009
With a blustery wind and strong rain always being a
factor in this game Sports drop their first 2 points of the season to 3rd
placed Carlton Town Yellow.
Sports started the better as
Carlton
struggled to clear and the ball dropped to Ben Oscroft, who found Mark Shelton
to open the scoring after 3 minutes. With the wind in Sports favour they pressed
for the 2nd, with some good work from Reegan Morris down the left
Sports gain a corner. With the ball floated in it was met on the volley by
Oscroft to make it 2-0.
As the half went on Sports seemed to settle for this as
Carlton
grew stronger and looked for their opener.
Carlton
had a few small breaks as Sports defended in numbers. A fine effort from
Carlton
saw Kieran Sheppard’s fine hands as he tipped it around the post. Joe
Worrall, Ben Clarke, Kieran Davies and Kieran Duncan now all guarding their goal
as
Carlton
gain another corner.
The ball was delivered across the box only to hit a Sports
player for an own goal. Half time 2-1 to Sports.
The second half seemed to be 1 hour long as Sports
struggled against the wind, which seemed to be stronger now, with few chances
dropping to Strikers McCauley Walker and Adam Boyfield. Defensively Sports were
the busier and Sheppard produced another fine save, tipped over the bar.
Midfield was where the game was at, and
Shelton
, Stephen Whitley, Oliver Davison –Turner and Oscroft worked hard to gain
control. It was backs against the wall as
Carlton
pressed for an equalizer, some great headers and challenges by the Sports back
four. With 5 minutes to go Sports could not clear the ball and
Carlton
found the equalizer. Sports found some energy as
Walker
fired wide from a good through ball from Morris, but after 7 months of wins
Sports had to settle for a point.
With over 10 games left and all teams wanting to be the
first to beat Sports, they will return stronger from today’s game, which
lacked the usual flowing football from Sports as the wind today was really
in-charge.
Ben (ozy) Oscroft was awarded player of the game for his
relentless work and volleyed goal.
