Hucknall Sports U9's Saturday 6 Priory Celtic 4

Hucknall Sports, Winners of the YEL Cup 2009

Sports saved the best until last on their final game of the season with a remarkable performance against Priory Celtic who had already beaten them twice this season.

Although Sports started the stronger side, they somehow got themselves 2 goals behind after only 10 minutes. Where other teams heads would have dropped, this seemed to spur Sports on. Josh Pearson got himself a free kick which he fired into the roof of the net.

The way Sports were adapting to this match was obvious to everyone that it was going to be attack after attack, and so it proved when Oliver Bradbury sent a terrific pass through to Matt Bloor who hit a shot 1st time past the keeper to even the score. The Priory players heads seem to drop and Sports managed to get another 2 goals before half time through Bradbury and Bloor.Half time 4-2.

You could tell by the boys attitudes that there was no way this game was going to be thrown away. Matt [deadly] Bloor completed his hatrick early in the second half and with more attacks the ball was crossed in for Bradbury to head in his 2nd at the back post. With the score at 6-2 Sports made 2 changes replacing the impressive Bloor with Joseph Palethorpe and Ryan Butler with Ellis Abbott.

Priory used this as a springboard and managed to get themselves another 2 goals.

With only minutes remaining Sports were instructed to slow the game down and keep the score at 6-4. The roar from the players and supporters at full time seemed to open the heavens and the rain poured down. There were no complaints from the boys as they were going to be soaked in chapagne anyway!

There has always got to be 2 teams that make an entertaining final and credit must go to Kev and his lads from Priory who at full time showed no bitterness and cheered the winning team. The managers of Sports would like to thank all the supporters who turned out in force and for their nice comments about the team.

Special thanks to Bob and Derek for their support in our 1st cup final and the Rolls Royce team who supported us throughout the  match. The man of the match chosen by the referee was Matthew Bloor who turned in a performance that we knew he was capable of.The new boots did the trick!
