After winning the Nottinghamshire County Cup, Hucknall Sports U13's Red  went down to Birmingham to represent Nottingham in the Central England Finals.

The county champions of: Birmingham , Leicestershire, Shropshire, Huntingdonshire, Suffolk , Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Staffordshire were their opposition.

The ten teams were in two divisions with the winners of both divisions playing each other in the final. Sports topped their table winning all four games and only conceding 1 goal. The final loomed with a place at Pride Park at stake in the National Final.

Hucknall Sports of Nottinghamshire v Phoenix of Birmingham

Sports started well and with only ten minutes each way, they needed to gain an early goal. This came from a superb volley from Joe Harrison which put Sports 1-0 up at the interval.

Phoenix came out the stronger in the second half and it was backs against the wall but Sports defended well producing a fine save from keeper Kieran Sheppard. With Sports soaking up all the pressure from this very talented Birmingham side they broke with a counter attack from Oliver Davison-Turner who was brought down in the penalty area for a penalty kick to Sports.

With 2 minutes left Lewis Oldershaw for Sports steeped up for the penalty and coolly passed it in the corner making it  2-0 to Sports . The final whistle went and the jubilant Sports earn their place in the last 4 of the National Final.

The day was not just about the goal scorers but all 15 players playing their part in this superb Hucknall side from the start of this completion in September 2009 via the knock out stage of the Nottinghamshire County Cup.

Hucknall Sports awarded their player of the tournament to Joe Harrison. However there was more to come as the Tesco officials awarded Ben Clarke as defender of the tournament and Joe Worrall as player of the tournament.
