Josh Pearson and Connor Kennedy set their stall out from the 1st minute giving Gotham no time on the ball, putting in some strong hard challenges. A nice through ball found the on running Will Ungless Brooks who was brought down in the penalty area only to see the ball go out of play and a goal kick given. A second time Brooks was brought down 20 yards out and up came big man and captain for the day Sam Jackson who hit a bullet of a shot giving the keeper no chance and Sports take the lead. The 1st half continued much the same with Sports having the majority of play and keeping the lead.
The 2nd half again started with Sports having most of the ball and when they were awarded a free kick on the left of the penalty area and up came Pearson to curl the ball over the keeper into the top corner of the net. 2-0.
This seemed to wake Gotham up and almost straight from the kick off they placed a neat ball through to the striker who hit a left foot shot over the advancing Luke Watson in goal. Sports reacted superbly to this and attack after attack just couldnt find the back of the net. Jake Hollis hit a perfect left foot shot that hit the inside of the post only to see the ball fall straight into the keepers arms. With only a minute to go a long ball found the Gotham striker, somehow beating the offside trap and putting the ball into the back of the net.
With penalties now approaching changes were made to bring on the takers.
Sports up 1st with Ryan Butler scoring
Every penalty was superb giving the keeper no chance.
Praise must be given to the Sports players who decided that before they celebrated victory they would go and console the Gotham players who had kept Sports in their grasp all season. These are two good honest teams with great supporters a great advertisement for YEL football.
Man of the match was picked by the officials and awarded to Josh Pearson.
Well done boys,we are so proud of you winning the double and getting to the semi final of the FA Shield in your 1st season together.
