Netherfield Boys 0 Hucknall Sports U12's Black 2
Sunday 29th January 2012
YEL Division 1
Sports knew they had to be on their game today after seeing the sloping very muddy pitch. Netherfield had beaten the league leaders 4-2 the previous week so they were not going to be a pushover.
Sports played down the slope 1st half so needed to score and it was only a matter of time as Jake Hollis was causing the defence loads of problems with his pace and strength. Matt Bloor placed a long pass over the defence for Hollis to run on to and place past the keeper.
Sports were playing the ball around the pitch superbly and when a ball was placed to the right of the penalty area, Oliver Bradbury crossed for Hollis to again place past the keeper 2-0. Many more attempts at goal followed and just before half time Bradbury hit a shot that the keeper brilliantly tipped over the bar.
Half time team talk was to keep the ball and defend with the pitch cutting up badly and being against the slope. Bradbury was replaced with George Weatherhall as an extra midfielder playing a 4-5-1 formation. Everyone of the Sports players did exactly what they were asked and gave one of their best performances in this half, giving the Netherfield players no time on the ball .
Full time 0-2. Best performance of the season.
Man of the match could have gone to anyone today, Connor Kennedy filling in at right back for Daniel Stenson, Jake Hollis for his 2 goals and constant menacing, but was awarded to Josh Pearson who covered every blade of grass (mud) and who's attitude over the past few weeks has been spot on.
Well done boys. Big match next week against top of the league .
