Under 12's Black

Managers Comments

Having gained promotion to Sunday Division 2 of the YEL at the end of last season the Under 12 Blacks have had a real rollercoaster ride of a season.

They struggled to consistently show the form they demonstrated last season and did not put a run of results together until the end of October ‘08, which then saw them beaten only once until January ‘09. January and February again saw them lose their way but March/April saw the team showing what they are really capable of, playing the best football they had played all season.

Along the way the Under 12 Blacks have recorded their biggest ever win but succumbed to their worst ever defeat. Having won very nearly as many matches as they have lost this season, they have retained their place in Division 2 and hope to use the experience gained in this campaign as the foundations for a more successful and consistent Under 13 season.

Players, Player of the Year

Josh Palmer

Players, player is arguably the most important award any player can be awarded as it is voted on by their fellow team members and they alone decide who has made the most impact on the team throughout the season.

In an extremely close vote, this years winner is a young man who seized his chance to show what he was capable of with both hands or should that be feet. With each passing game he has got better and better and his confidence and self belief has gone through the roof. One minute he’s supporting the attack the next he’s back in his own box making a goal stopping tackle. His work rate is absolutely tremendous but his team mates should have the last words, “he’s a real nice lad who always gives his all for the team.

Sportsman / Most Improved Player

Dale Thomas

In previous years the winner of Most Improved Player has been voted for by the parent’s, but in a break from tradition this years winner has been chosen by the Management team.

The player concerned has not only shown real commitment to the team but is a real pleasure to coach. He has an attitude to training and matches which is second to none and he always takes on board the comments made by his coaches.

However, this trophy is about being the most improved and he’s certainly that, for after being moved out of his comfort zone we have seen the real potential of this young man. A reliable right back has become an outstanding, old fashioned centre half and his no nonsense approach to defending has saved the day on more than one occasion.

Managers, Player of the Year

Joe Porter

It is very difficult for any manager to single out one player from the rest of his squad to receive this award as each member brings with them a uniqueness that needs to be nurtured, encouraged and developed to maximise their full potential. A tough season has seen some players really stand up and be counted whilst others have lost their way to one degree or another.

However, this years managers players is one of those players who has really stepped up to the plate and given his all for the team and this has been noticed by his piers as he was extremely close to being the players, player. He’s an absolute pleasure to coach as you never get anything less than a hundred percent whether it be on match day or in training. His strong tackling and heading, coupled with his excellent distribution of the ball has seen this young man forge a superb relationship with his fellow defenders but more than that he’s a real asset to the team.
