Annual Awards Presentation Evening 2009

Under 15's Sunday

Managers Comments

This is the 1st season I have took full charge of the team after Steve Wells stepped down last season.

The squad at the start of the season was very strong and expectations were high and we got off to an excellent away win at East Valley on the opening day of the season. East Valley have always been a bogey team to us and we beat them comprehensively 6-3. Our team grew steadily in the league, always staying in the top half of the table, only loosing 3 times before Christmas.

At the start of 2009 we had a cup quarter final away to West Bridgford which we had to play with 10 men. The team gave it their all but narrowly lost 2-1. Time to concentrate the league (a managers famous words).

Our team went on from this defeat to win 7 games back to back, including beating the 1st and 2nd placed teams convincingly, our eyes were firmly on 2nd place in the league, Holgate became a fortress having not dropped a point or loosing a game. The next four games broke our season, we lost all four games due to lack of personel, full credit to the lads they battled on. But our dream to to finish 2nd faded and we ended the campaign winning the last three games to finish 5th, 12 points behind the league winner. How those 4 changed the season. All in all fantastic season with great footballing lads.

Players, Player of the Year

Sam Woodcock

Players player went to someone who never puts a foot wrong. He has played every game for his team and made an impact in all of them. His goal scoring has helped the team no end and added a new dimension to his game.

He even played on after some make shift first aid by his manager which left it virtually imposible for him to see the game with all the bandages around his head!

He is by far totally committed to his team and an excellent captain.

Sportsman / Most Improved Player

Sam Henderson

Most sporting player went to a player who was injured and could'nt play for a couple of games.

When he came back he started as sub and stood with me on the touch line. We chatted through the game and I said he could play towards the end. It was very tight and this player came up to me and said that if I did'nt want to change it around, as the game was so important, he would'nt mind if he did'nt get a game.

What a fantastic attitude on a young head, a real sporting jesture by a great sporting lad.

Managers, Player of the Year

Nathan Guigno

Managers player went to a player who has become a great asset to the team.

Without his total commitment in defence I dont think we would have won the amount of games we did. Another player who has not missed a game for his team this season and has grown into a mature sportsman.
