Annual Awards Presentation Evening 2008
Under 11's Black

This was our
first season at 11-a-side and to compete at this level we had to increase our
squad size by 50% taking it from ten to fifteen players. Of those five
new players, three had never played competitive football before, so the Under 11
Blacks accomplishment this season is nothing short of remarkable.
They
finished their league campaign in a very respectable 4th place,
twelve points clear of 5th, and only narrowly missed out on 3rd,
having been in the chase until the bitter end. They can be extremely proud of
themselves that they were in the top four all season.
Their hard work
and determination in matches and training has seen them consistently improve
during the season. They have earned a great deal of praise from opposition
managers and parents as well as from their own coaches and parents for their
flowing style of passing football which at times has been a pure joy to watch.
Above all their
team spirit is second to none and if they continue to show the level of
commitment and improvement they have demonstrated in only their second season
together, then their 1st silverware is surely just around the corner.

Players, Player of the Year James Smith As a player
this should be the one you want to win as this is the one where your fellow team
mates make the decision. So the winner of players’ player should feel very
proud that his team mates think he deserves this honour. One of his team
mates probably said all that needs to be said about this young man on his voting
form ‘he is the real hero of the team’. Or should it be one of his other
team mates who stated ‘he is a really good player and really funny as well’.
Either way there is no doubting that this young man thoroughly deserves this
award and there really isn’t anything more to be said. |

Sportsman / Most Improved Player Cory George The parents
have again voted for the person receiving this award and as one parent so
eloquently put it ‘you could have voted for anyone in the squad and not got it
wrong’. However, the
eventual winner is a young man who has come into his own since moving up to the
11-a-side game. He has a new found love of the game and it shows in the way he
plays and his attitude to training. He has become an extremely hardworking
player and having often been leading the attack, he can be seen as the last man
defending his goal. There is no doubt he has made excellent progress over the
season and
thoroughly deserves this recognition of his endeavours.

Managers, Player of the Year Macauley Walker The young man
who has earned managers player
this season is a real Jekyll and Hyde character.
One minute he can leave you breathless (and in his managers case speechless)
with a magical piece of skill or a wonder strike that would end up on goal of
the month. The next he will be
moaning about one thing or another (and believe me when I say this young man
could moan for England) with the referee, his managers or his team mates.
However, that moaning comes from his deep rooted competitive streak and a desire
to do his best for the team and his managers. He has a superb work rate and will
do anything his managers ask of him. There is no doubt this young man has played a pivotal role in the success of the Under 11 Blacks this season and so just can‘t be ignored.
