A Record Breaking Season for Hucknall Sports

No fewer than 12 trophies were won by the club’s teams which was the best return in Sports’s distinguished 33-year history.

The fantastic haul brought lavish praise from Club President Derek Day, who thinks it has been a most excellent season, where credit is due to all the managers and also those working behind the scenes. He is confident the club will achieve even greater heights in the future, providing the young ones of the district the opportunity to participate in and enjoy their chosen sport.

Chairman Alan Spray praised the voluntary dedication and personal effort of everyone at the club, despite being handicapped by the lack of playing facilities in Hucknall.

All 17 teams within the club have had a truly remarkable season and whilst success is always what teams strive for it is also the way that they play that matters. Win lose or draw Hucknall Sports will continue to flourish in seasons to come  for that reason alone.

At the forefront of the success of Hucknall is the very successful soccer school managed by Phil Barnes and Alwyn Sears. It has been running for the past 6 years and it has certainly played a big part in providing youngsters with the basic skills and the opportunity to progress further in the game should they wish to do so.

Anyone interested in joining any of the teams, including the Soccer School should contact us

The Under 9’s White

In their very first competitive season they went
on to become Division 1 Champions which was a fantastic achievement for a team who early on in the season
lost boys to Derby County & Notts County.

The management, coaches and parents are so proud of the boys
commitment and hard work during  their first competative season in the YEL.
They can only go from strength  strength. A fantastic result from a fantastic team.

The Under 10's Red

Won the YEL League Cup,
were Runners Up in a very competitive Division 1
and lost by the only goal in the Notts FA Shield semi final.

The progress these teams have made in the past 6 years have been from the childs 1st break into football from our soccer school. The professional manner in the way they were taught has followed on into team play by the parents who have now become managers or coaches, all learnt at our soccer school.
The current U10's Reds are all gratefull to Phil Barnes for his guidance.

The Under 11’s White

Won the Division 2 title of the YEL in very
handsome  fashion  losing just two games all season.
This is just reward for the players and management team
that have won the YEL Sportsmanship award two seasons
 in succession.

The improvement this season has been nothing short of remarkable
given that only three season's ago this team finished in the bottom
three of the league with a sum total of only 3 wins.

We look forward to playing Division One football next season and
promise to remain faithful to our open attacking style of football.

The Under 12’s White

Won the Division 3 title with only one defeat in 18 league
games and scoring over 100 goals in the process.
 This was a fantastic achievement.

I think the way we played our football throughout the season was the most pleasing aspect and winning the league was the reward for this. All 14 members of the squad contributed, which meant both as individuals and as a team there was improvement all season. Our team performance was noted by many of the teams we played against. At this age I think it is about learning and enjoying the game – all 14 lads certainly did that this season and they have been a pleasure to coach.

The Under 12’s Black

Won the YEL Fair Play Award for Division 2.

A fantastic achievement for a team that did not have the best of seasons for results but they were recognised for their fair play achievement. This is a very prestigious award where opposing team managers vote for you, which says a lot for the FA’s  RESPECT campaign which this team duly achieved throughout this season.

This is the 3rd consecutive season that Hucknall Sports has won a fair play award from the YEL—it is not all about winning all the time.

Everyone is so very proud of the way the boys have conducted themselves throughout the season.

The Under 13's Red

The team this team’s season has been a manager’s dream with the players exceeding all his expectations. On and off the pitch, they have matured,
with respect for players, opponents, referees and parents.
But the biggest factor in our success has been our consistency and ability.
Martin Whitley Manager U13's Red

The highlight of the season has to be the Under 13’s Saturday
side who romped away with the YEL Division 1 title playing
20 league games and winning all 20.

Winning the YEL League Cup in spectacular form.

Winning the Notts FA Shield again this season.
This is only the second time in Hucknall Sports' long history
that a team have won back to back Notts FA Shields.

By winning the Shield they then went on to represent
Nottinghamshire in the TESCO cup regional finals
at Birmingham which they won only to lose out  in the
National Final at Pride Park in a penalty shoot out.

The U13's Black won the YEL Trophy.

The lads won the YEL trophy after a very difficult start to the season but week
by week they improved and reaped their reward at the the end of the season.

 The Under 15's

They were very much in contention for both the League and Cup
only to stutter at the final hurdle, losing on penalties in the Cup
Semi Final and just missing out on winning the Notts Youth
League Division 2 having to settle for runners up.

Virtually all these boys have been with the club for the past 7 / 8 years
which says a lot for the team spirit displayed within this squad.
They deserve a lot of credit for the way they have performed.
